Mixing Board

Objective: To build words and exhaust the cards in your hand before your opponent does.

For group play.

  1. Place the two wild cards at the center of the table.

  2. Shuffle the remaining cards.

  3. Deal seven cards to each player.

  4. The first player to the right of the dealer forms a word off of one of the wild card. The word can be played horizontally or vertically.

  5. Going clockwise, the next player forms a word off of one of the wild cards or one of the cards that has been played. If the player cannot form a word with the cards held in their hand, the player should draw additional cards until a card can be played. Cards must form a word with any cards that they abut, whether horizontally or diagonally.

  6. Continue this process until a player no longer holds a card or the deck has been exhausted.

  7. Whichever player uses all of their cards first wins the game. If no player finishes their cards by the time the deck is exhausted, the player holding the fewest cards wins. If there is a tie for fewest cards, the player with the fewest consonants wins.

Note: As words can be pronounced differently depending on accent and dialect, there can be more than one way to transcribe a word phonetically. Thus, players should agree in advance on how to resolve questions about acceptable respellings. For example, they might chose to consult Dictionary.com or another dictionary of their choice for standard phonetic transcriptions of words.
